Federal — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced a change in the Employer Identification Number (EIN) application process. Effective May 13, 2019, an individual with a Social Security Number (SSN) or an Identification Number (ITIN) must be listed as the responsible party for the EIN applicant. (Formerly, listing an entity as the responsible party was permitted.) This applies regardless of whether the applicant is domiciled within or without the United States or whether the Application is filed in paper or online.
