3 Ways to Benefit from National Small Business Week: May 12-16

Every small business owner realizes that starting a business is quite an accomplishment—one that deserves national recognition. Since 1963, National Small Business Week has provided both recognition and opportunities to take your business to the next level. During National Small Business Week 2014, (May 12 through May 16), the U.S. Small Business Administration joins with corporations, non-profit organizations and government leaders to sponsor events that recognize and promote small businesses across America.  Here are three ways you can take advantage of these opportunities to network, learn and celebrate.

Participate in a Live Event

Four live events will be held throughout the week in different regions of the country. Each event includes a full schedule of presentations and workshops are designed to provide opportunities for networking, learning and celebrating the accomplishments of fellow entrepreneurs.  Panel discussions and break-out sessions cover business innovation, growth strategies—including exporting and government contracting—and financing opportunities.

One-day events are scheduled for San Francisco (May 12), Kansas City (May 13) and Boston (May 15). A two-day live event in Washington, D.C., caps the week.  In addition to speakers, sessions and networking opportunities, the 2014 National Small Business Person of the Year will be announced.

Attend a Webinar

The SBA recognizes that not everyone can attend one of the live events.  (In fact, the events in San Francisco and Boston are both sold out.)  So, there are a number of one-hour sessions offering online throughout the week.  The topics include:

  • Small Business Travel: Strategic Ways to Increase Your Return on Travel  (May 12)
  • Growing Your Business with Direct Mail (May 12)
  • Small Business: Big Benefits (May 13)
  • Achieving Big Customer Loyalty in a Small Business World: 10 Tips to Create A Killer Customer Loyalty Program (May 14)
  • Making It Big: Small Biz Success in a Mobile World (May 14)

There is no charge for these sessions—but registration is required. Another presentation, “Practical Marketing – A Five-Step Marketing Program for Small Biz” is already filled, but the SBA promises to have the recording available on the SBA’s YouTube channel  on May 30.
